Ride A Pet Beginner Guide (First Hour)

Ride A Pet drops you in the Overworld with a Snail and a map full of free egg spawns. The first hour decides how fast everything after it goes, because speed is what lets you reach the rarer eggs. Here is the route that skips the wasted time.

1. Understand the loop before you upgrade anything

The loop is short: eggs spawn around the map, you carry one back and hatch a pet, the pet gives you speed, jump and income, and that speed is what lets you reach the next egg in time. Income buys radars and food; speed buys you egg attempts.

The developer states it in almost exactly those words in the official game description — find eggs, hatch rarer and faster pets to find rarer eggs, and mutate pets to go even faster. Everything you buy is in service of that loop.

Every documented pet in Ride A Pet currently weighs 10kg, so weight is not a decision factor. The three stats that matter are base speed, base jump and base income.

2. The first 15 minutes, step by step

Minutes 0–5: ride the starting Snail to the nearest egg spawn and hatch. Snail is a 1 in 2 coin flip — you should own something better almost immediately. Turtle (1 in 5, 50 speed) or Sloth (1 in 20, 90 speed) ends this phase.

Minutes 5–10: keep hatching until you have something above 400 speed. Capybara is 1 in 100 at 407 speed and Chicken is 1 in 150 at 553 — either one makes the rest of the map reachable.

Minutes 10–15: with 553+ speed, start chaining spawns instead of chasing one egg at a time, and buy Grass from the food stand when you pass it. The full ladder you are climbing is on the pet database.

3. Replace the Snail before you do anything else

Snail has 1 in 2 hatch odds, 15 base speed, 78 jump and 3 income. It is a coin flip with a shell — fine for the first few minutes, useless after that.

Do not spend storms, food or effort on starter pets. You will replace anything below Chicken (1 in 150, 553 speed) within your first session, and anything below Fox (1 in 21M, 19,500 speed) within your first week.

4. Chase egg spawns, not the shop

Normal eggs around the map are free — you are not buying them. Each spawn only lasts a short window (community guides report roughly 20 seconds), so if you are AFK or riding something slow, the egg is gone before you arrive.

That is the whole reason speed compounds: more speed means more egg attempts, more attempts mean better pets, and better pets mean more speed. Check the in-game Index to see how many of each egg are currently spawned before you commit to a hunt.

Eggs reset on roughly an 8-minute cycle. Treat a hunt as a repeating loop rather than a single trip — the egg locations guide breaks the cycle down.

5. Learn the four zones early

The map has four zones: the Overworld hub, the Giant Tree Zone, the Desert Zone and the Waterfall Zone. When something rare spawns you do not want to spend half the window working out where you are.

The Overworld holds the baseline shops and the Mutation Ranch — the safe area where you park pets during a storm.

6. Buy radars the moment they pay for themselves

Radars track one egg rarity tier each and cannot be switched off once bought: Advanced ($50) finds Rare eggs, Jewel ($3,000) finds Epic, Royal ($20,000) finds Legendary, Magic ($300,000) finds Mythic, Angelic ($7M) finds Divine and Eternal ($30M) finds Ethereal. Turn on Auto-Buy so a radar restocks itself whenever it is available.

Food works the same way as an investment — Grass at $10 for 500 XP is the cheapest way to level pets early, and higher-level pets provide better stats. The full radar and food tables are on the gear page.

Before you spend anything beyond the Advanced Radar, read the upgrade order guide — the order you buy in matters more than how much you buy.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do first in Ride A Pet?

Hatch a replacement for the starting Snail. Turtle (1 in 5, 50 speed), Sloth (1 in 20, 90 speed) and Capybara (1 in 100, 407 speed) all come quickly, and Chicken (1 in 150, 553 speed) is the first pet that makes the whole map reachable.

How long does the first hour take to get going?

The early ladder moves fast: Turtle is 1 in 5, Sloth 1 in 20, Axolotl 1 in 30 and Chicken 1 in 150. Most players pass 550 base speed inside their first session, which is the point where egg spawns stop being a race.

Do I need to spend Robux to start in Ride A Pet?

No. Normal eggs are free to grab, mutations come from storms rather than purchases, and the only game pass on sale is the Infinite Radar at 399 Robux — a convenience purchase, not a requirement.
