Ride A Pet Progression Guide: Noob to Endgame
The pet ladder in Ride A Pet looks like a smooth curve and is not. It has two points where the game changes character, and knowing where they are tells you whether to keep hatching or go and rebuild your money instead.

1. The three stats, and which one you are short of
Speed decides how many egg spawns you can reach inside the roughly 20-second window. Income decides how fast you can buy radars, food and upgrades. Jump decides whether you can reach terrain at all — it is the stat players ignore until a platform stops them.
The classic mistake is optimising one and calling it done. Speed and income do not scale together in Ride A Pet: Kitsune has 1 billion speed but 90 million income, while Dragon has 300 million speed and 300 million income — three times the money from less than a third of the pace.
2. Early game: Snail to Chicken (the 1 in 150 wall)
This stage is deliberately fast. Snail is 1 in 2, Turtle 1 in 5, Sloth 1 in 20, Axolotl 1 in 30, Koala 1 in 50, Capybara 1 in 100. Speeds run 15 → 50 → 90 → 165 → 300 → 407.
Chicken at 1 in 150 and 553 speed is the first real decision point. Below it, every pet is a stepping stone you will throw away. At Chicken you can cross the map, so from here your bottleneck stops being speed and starts being income.
This is where you buy the Advanced Radar ($50) and start farming money in parallel. See the money guide for how the income stat works.
3. Mid game: the knee at Fox (1 in 21M)
Between Chicken and Fox the ladder crawls: Pig 1 in 200 (750), Elephant 1 in 300 (1,020), Panda 1 in 1K (1,380), Kangaroo 1 in 3K (3,050), Deer 1 in 9K (3,250), Spider 1 in 25K (3,690), Crocodile 1 in 75K (3,940), Gorilla 1 in 150K (4,480), Snake 1 in 180K (4,780), Horse 1 in 500K (5,340), Wolf 1 in 700K (5,710), Shark 1 in 1M (6,100), Lion 1 in 1.2M (6,520), Ostrich 1 in 1.5M (6,960).
Look at the ratio: from 1 in 200 to 1 in 1.5M the hatch chance gets 7,500 times harder and base speed goes up about nine times. That is the grind zone, and it is why this is where players either buy radars or quit.
Then Fox lands at 1 in 21M with 19,500 speed and 1,200 income — roughly three times Ostrich's speed and 1.6 times its income in a single hatch. Fox is the knee of the curve. After it, upgrades feel like upgrades again.
Spider is the one trap on the way through: 1 in 25,000 with only 3,690 speed, but 129 jump, which beats Horse (108), Shark (114) and Lion (120). If terrain is what is stopping you, Spider is the mobility pick for that stretch.
4. Late game: Cheetah to Phoenix
Above Fox the numbers stop behaving like a normal ladder. Cheetah is 1 in 7B at 38,400 speed, Giraffe 1 in 300M at 27,400, Unicorn 1 in 1T at 137,000 — a jump of roughly five times — then T-Rex at 1 in 10T and 266,000, then Phoenix at 1 in 30T and 1,000,000 speed with 100,000 income.
Phoenix is a milestone for a second reason: it is the pet required for Rebirth 4, which costs $125B. That pairing is where the two systems interlock, and it is covered in the rebirth guide.
Expect this stage to be measured in passive income rather than hatch luck. You are not hatching your way past 1 in 1T; you are banking cash for radars that find your way past it.
5. Endgame: Cerberus, Kitsune and Dragon
The final three are all Ethereal-rarity and all documented at hatch odds that make deliberate hunting unrealistic: Cerberus 1 in 70Qa (100M speed, 30M income), Kitsune 1 in 1Qi (1B speed, 90M income, 170 jump — the joint-highest jump in the game) and Dragon at 1 in 5Qi with 300M speed and 300M income, the highest base income documented.
Pick by goal, not by rarity: Kitsune for reaching eggs, Dragon for making money, Cerberus as the cheaper way into the tier. The endgame pets guide compares them properly.
In practice this stage is reached through mutations (x2 to x100) applied to a good pet rather than through raw hatches — see the mutations page.
6. The 15-minute session loop
Once you know your stage, a session looks the same every time. Minute 0: open the in-game Index and see which eggs are currently spawned; set your radar to the tier you are farming. Minutes 1–8: ride the spawn cycle, hatching into the best pet available to you.
Minutes 8–12: check whether a storm is up and whether a better pet is worth parking on the Mutation Ranch — a storm is a spendable resource, not a background event. Minutes 12–15: switch to your income pet and bank cash, then decide whether it goes into a radar, food or a rebirth.
The single rule that keeps this loop efficient: ride your speed pet to reach eggs and your income pet to earn. They are usually not the same animal.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best pet to aim for at each stage of Ride A Pet?
Early: Chicken (1 in 150, 553 speed). Mid: Fox (1 in 21M, 19,500 speed), the point where the ladder stops crawling. Late: Phoenix (1 in 30T, 1M speed), which doubles as the Rebirth 4 requirement. Endgame: Kitsune for speed, Dragon for income.
Why does progression stall in the middle of Ride A Pet?
Between 1 in 200 and 1 in 1.5M the hatch chance gets about 7,500 times harder while base speed only rises about nine times. That mismatch is the grind zone, and it is designed to be crossed with radars and money rather than raw hatching.
How long does it take to reach the endgame in Ride A Pet?
No official figure exists and any number you see elsewhere is an estimate. What the data shows is the shape of the climb: fast to Chicken, very slow to Fox, then step changes through Cheetah, Unicorn, Phoenix and the three Ethereal pets.
