Ride A Pet Luck Guide: Hatch Odds & Multipliers

Luck is the stat in Ride A Pet that nobody can quote a number for, and that turns out to matter less than understanding the three levers you can actually control — plus the arithmetic behind what a 1-in-N chance means.

1. The three luck levers you control

Egg rarity band. The ladder is documented from White at 1 luck to Cherub at 1,000,000,000,000 luck. Which band you are opening sets the ceiling on what can come out, and rarity bands are what radars filter by.

Your temporary Luck Multiplier. Rebirth documentation states that a rebirth resets your Coins and your temporary Luck Multiplier — so the multiplier exists, is temporary, and is lost when you rebirth.

Your radar. A radar does not change odds, it changes what you can see and reach within the roughly 20-second spawn window. Practically, that makes it a luck tool: an egg you never notice is an attempt you never took.

2. What the Luck Multiplier is — and what is not published

The developer publishes no value, source or cap for the Luck Multiplier. What is documented is that it is temporary, and that rebirthing resets it.

That single fact has a real strategic consequence: rebirth is not purely additive. You gain a permanent +1x Money Multiplier and +1 Pet Slot, and you lose your luck multiplier and all your Coins. If you are mid-way through a high-value egg hunt, that reset costs more than the rebirth table implies.

Because no multiplier value is published, this site does not quote one. Anything claiming a specific percentage is guessing — see the data policy.

3. What 1-in-N really means

Hatch odds are per attempt and do not accumulate. A 1 in 1,000 pet is not guaranteed in 1,000 eggs; the chance of seeing at least one in n attempts is 1 − (1 − 1/N)n.

Two numbers are worth remembering. The 50% mark lands at about 0.69 × N — so roughly 693 attempts for a 1 in 1,000 pet. The 90% mark lands at about 2.3 × N — roughly 2,303 attempts for the same pet.

That asymmetry is why the endgame odds are effectively walls. Phoenix is 1 in 30T, so a 50% chance takes about 21 trillion attempts and a 90% chance about 69 trillion. Those are real arithmetic on the published denominator, not estimates of effort.

4. Why speed is really a luck stat

Eggs spawn on roughly an 8-minute cycle and stay for about 20 seconds. Your number of attempts per hour is therefore set by how many spawns you can physically reach, which is a speed question.

Doubling your pet's speed does not double your luck, but it does increase the number of attempts you get through in an evening — and the attempt count is the only input into the probability above that you can actually change.

This is also why the In-game Index matters more than it looks: knowing what is spawned converts a wasted trip into a taken attempt.

5. Radars are a filter, not a boost

A common misconception is that a better radar improves what you hatch. It does not — it highlights one rarity band on your screen so you can find those eggs inside the spawn window. The odds of the egg itself are unchanged.

What changes is which eggs you are attempting. Buying the Eternal Radar ($30M) does not make Ethereal eggs more likely; it makes them findable. And because radars cannot be toggled off, buying above your current band leaves you filtering for eggs you cannot use.

The band-to-radar mapping is on the gear page.

6. Three luck myths worth dropping

'Rarer is better.' Giraffe is 1 in 300M and slower than Cheetah at 1 in 7B — 27,400 against 38,400 speed. Neither is a better pet for being rarer.

'A mutation boosts money.' Every documented mutation multiplier is a speed multiplier. Income comes from the ridden pet's income stat plus your rebirth Money Multiplier.

'I am due a good hatch.' Attempts are independent. A long run of misses does not raise the next attempt's chance — only more attempts do. You can model all of this in the hatch odds calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How does luck work in Ride A Pet?

Three things affect it: the rarity band of the egg you open, your temporary Luck Multiplier, and which radar you run. The radar only changes what you can see and reach — the egg's own odds stay the same.

Does rebirth reset your luck in Ride A Pet?

Yes. A rebirth resets your Coins and your temporary Luck Multiplier, in exchange for a permanent +1x Money Multiplier and +1 Pet Slot. The developer publishes no value for the luck multiplier itself.

How many eggs for a 1 in 1,000 pet in Ride A Pet?

About 693 attempts gives a 50% chance and about 2,303 gives a 90% chance — because the chance of at least one hit in n attempts is 1 − (1 − 1/N)^n, so the 50% mark lands near 0.69 × N and the 90% mark near 2.3 × N, not at N.
